Position Summary: This position, located in western Idaho, is available on a continuing basis (contingent upon funding) to assist the Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab in the conduct of field, laboratory, storage, and/or greenhouse experiments including data collection from experiments. The goal of the Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab is to investigate plant diseases across a wide range of crops in Idaho with research and extension focusing on characterizing and managing plant diseases as well as developing new diagnostic methods for plant pathogens.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience using communication skills in a workplace and having effective communication with supervisors, co-workers, and third parties.
Experience: working with and without direct supervision; following good safety practices; and using basic personal computer software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Educational coursework in one or more of the following disciplines: biology, plant pathology, entomology, horticulture, agronomy, chemistry, or physical sciences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Willingness to work on research projects on plant disease diagnosis in lab and field settings
Experience in: scientific principles and conducting laboratory experiments; keeping accurate records; working in the field; working in a greenhouse; and working in a laboratory.
Demonstrated ability to: work in a cooperative manner and be an integral team member; operate, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and resolve basic problems with instruments and farm equipment; follow good safety practices.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Possess a valid drivers license and ability to drive a UI vehicle (pass driving record check and defensive driving course).
