Position Full-time, nine-month tenure track position in Agronomy in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 14, 2023. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive fringe benefits package is offered.
Responsibilities Deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction to students in the Agronomy program including instruction on campus, online, or through hybrid modalities that may include weekends and evenings. Courses (4/4 teaching load; 24 credit hours per academic year) will primarily be related to production agriculture in the Midwestern USA. Agronomy courses include crop and weed identification, applied agriculture chemicals, grain and seed evaluation, crop production, precision agriculture courses, and integrated crop management. New courses may be proposed based upon needs of the program and candidate expertise. Faculty members are expected to establish and maintain their own research agendas, which may include community engaged scholarship work. Pursuit of externally-funded grants to support research is encouraged. Service is required in accordance with tenure track criteria. The faculty member is expected to help further develop the program; advise students; foster equity and a sense of belonging among all students; and participate in recruitment, assessment, and retention efforts.
Minimum Qualifications â— Doctorate degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, or closely related field; â— Demonstrated knowledge of production strategies used in the Midwestern US for typical crops (soybeans, sugarbeet, potatoes, corn, wheat, edible beans, sunflowers); â— Effective communication skills; â— Record of effective teaching, preferably at the undergraduate level; â— Ability to draw upon cultural and community-based knowledge in teaching and research; â— Ability to demonstrate cultural competency within the scope of the land grant mission.
Preferred Qualifications â— Campus and online teaching experience, including teaching in laboratory settings; â— Experience in advising of undergraduate students; â— Research experience in an academic institution; â— Experience with externally funded projects and grants; â— Record of outreach and service; â— Experience developing and maintaining collaborations with relevant industry partners; â— A track record of successful grant writing and peer-reviewed publication; â— Experience coaching/running Crops Judging contests at the regional and national levels; â— Membership and engagement in relevant professional organizations.
