Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in nitrogen science, education, and management. We are looking for a candidate interested in applying fundamental science to study and communicate the opportunities and challenges of sustainable nitrogen management in Iowa cropping systems. This position is a 12-month appointment with 60% extension, 35% research, and 5% service. The successful applicant must have written and verbal communication skills and other abilities necessary to develop a strong extension education program. Relevant research areas may include fundamental advances in the understanding of nitrogen transport and transformation through the environment as well as the application of systems approaches towards better nitrogen management. The position should focus on improving the productivity, profitability, and environmental performance of cropping systems.
Position Responsibilities
Develop a research program and extension education programming focused on issues important to farmers including nitrogen management
Required Minimum Qualifications:
 Ph.D. in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in extension, research and/or teaching related to environmental nitrogen science and nitrogen fertilizer management and decision making
Experience in creating educational opportunities for farmers and other external stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to communicate research to both science and non-science audiences.
Evidence of collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork
