This is a full-time position in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University based in East Lansing, MI. The Szendrei lab (https://vegetable.ent.msu.edu) is looking for a motivated person whose primary duty will include coordinating and managing a large multi-state grant that’s aiming to develop pest management strategies for the U.S. potato industry. This person will act as a resource for internal and external project participants and stakeholders. They will report to Dr. Szendrei and will frequently communicate with project participants to coordinate project plans and compile and summarize results for reports and articles for publication. The incumbent will be expected to manage and update a project website, maintain a social media presence, organize and travel to project meetings and communicate with stakeholders. Responsibilities will also include coordinating laboratory and/or field operations, assisting in planning and designing experiments, conducting experiments, analyzing data, delivering extension presentations and other assigned duties.
Position start date: January 2024. This is an off-date position funded for 1 year from the date of hire, with reappointment contingent upon funding availability.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired in a four year college degree in entomology, biology, agronomy, environmental science, horticulture or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in a field related to the position including planning and managing research projects; communications content management (written, verbal, digital) experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, calendaring software, desktop publishing and/or project management software; experience with field and laboratory research in an agricultural or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid vehicle driver's license is required.
