The University of Vermont (UVM) Extension seeks applicants for an Extension Assistant Professor of Agronomy to develop a crop and soil focused applied education, outreach, and research program that benefits a diverse agricultural community in Vermont.
This is a union-represented, 12-month, 0.80 FTE faculty position with the opportunity to increase to 1.0 FTE through grants and/or teaching.
UVM Extension is especially interested in candidates who can cultivate a statewide extension program (with focus in Champlain and Connecticut River Valleys) that ensures economically viable agricultural production while balancing environment and natural resource protection and priorities. The successful candidate will advance the development and implementation of educational outreach that promotes sustainable crop and soil management, economics, and ecosystem services. For greatest success, this is anticipated to include fostering relationships with agricultural producers, producer groups, academic, federal, state organizational partners; providing technical assistance to agricultural producers; and conducting applied agricultural research.
This position will be housed in UVM Extension’s Middlebury office. Evening and weekend work is sometimes required. Frequent travel throughout the state might be expected along with occasional overnight travel for conferences, meetings, etc. Applicants must hold a PhD in agronomy, soils, precision agriculture or other related field and will have expertise in outreach program development, implementation, evaluation, and management, and technical experience in applied research and project management. Further, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences. Finally, experience with grant writing, project management, and supervising employees is preferred.
