Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, jointly administered by the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University, invites applications for a full-time position of Assistant/Associate/Full professor of practice in biological and biomanufacturing systems technology. This is a 9-month position with job responsibilities in teaching, recruiting and mentoring students, interfacing with relevant industries to provide educational and career opportunities for students, and engaging with other stakeholders to advance the biomanufacturing industry in the state of Iowa.
The successful candidate will teach courses and be a leader in the departments newly established BS degree option within the Industrial Technology program that emphasizes biological and biomanufacturing systems technology (BBST). The degree track prepares students to manage people, instruments, projects and processes in bio-based industries such as breweries, distilleries, biofuels, biochemicals, bioproducts, bioplastics, grain, feed, seed, food, or healthcare, using principles of manufacturing, instrumentation, chemistry, and microbiology. The successful candidate will have a strong industry background in this space, a track record of successfully training or mentoring early-career technology specialists, and an ability to effectively network with potential industry stakeholders.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
A B.S. degree in science, technology, or engineering.
At least five years of relevant industry experience.
Associate Professor: For consideration at the associate professor rank, applicants must have at least ten years of relevant industry experience (five years in addition to the above) and meet the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the associate professor of practice rank.
Professor: For consideration at the professor rank, applicants must have at least fifteen years of relevant industry experience (ten years in addition to the above) and meet the department, college, and university standards for appointment at the professor of practice rank
Preferred Qualifications:
An advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
Expertise in one or more of the following curriculum areas: biomanufacturing operations, modeling of biological processes, instrumentation analysis, or innovation development and management in bioprocessing and biomanufacturing.
Potential for teaching students in biological and biomanufacturing systems.
A demonstrated track record of building programs or initiatives.
An ability to collaborate and network across units or organizations.
