Dr. Angela Rigden in the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a creative and motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the implications of a changing hydrologic cycle on agriculture using multi-scale observations and models. Candidates will be expected to analyze large datasets (e.g., from satellites and climate models), develop and implement models, communicate results in peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and mentor students.
This is a one-year position that is renewable for up to three years, pending good progress and funding. The start date is flexible, ideally sometime in the Spring of 2023. The salary will range from 55,000 to 66,000 USD per year, scaling with experience as detailed here, and includes generous benefits.
Your qualifications:
An expected or recent Ph.D. in the geosciences or related fields (hydrology, agronomy, environmental science, climate science, statistics, data science, or other STEM fields) is required at time of hire. Ideal candidates will be familiar with land-atmosphere interactions, crop yield models, and/or remote sensing. Proficient programming (Python, MATLAB, or R) and quantitative skills are strongly preferred.

The Earth System Science Department at UC Irvine is highly interdisciplinary. It is comprised of around 25 faculty with expertise spanning the Earth System, including land surface processes, atmospheric and climate dynamics, terrestrial and marine biogeochemical cycles, ice sheets, and human systems.
